I am a certified Secondary teacher in VA with endorsements in English, Speech Communications, and Journalism. In addition, I have 18 graduate credits in education and special education. I coached debate and forensics with a competitive winning team in both areas.
Experience
I have worked with ESL/ESOL high school students in my classroom and adapted lesson plans to fit their needs in: basic language usage, grammar, writing, and communication skills. I would tailor any program to each individual student's needs by adding or omitting what the student's weakest areas are in the English language. I have also tutored an adult ESOL. Included in my program would be body language cues, as these are different from culture to culture. Acclimating to English would be a priority, as well as understanding the language. Also, I have worked with many learning disabled students throughout the years with 504 and IEP plans requiring modifying lessons and work to accommodate their needs and learning styles. This includes students with ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Autism, and various other disabilities and conditions. I have 28 published poems and have written three children's books that I am working on getting published.
